Identifying Giftedness:

What the characteristics that help you to identify and understand giftedness?

The following are a list of 9 traits or characteristics, not exhaustive nor are they generalized to all gifted students but may apply to your child.

  1. He or she may start to think in an abstract term that is often complex, logical, and insightful.
  2. The child ideas presented and their sense of justice is developed at an early age.
  3. Often times, depending on the age, the child is concerned with social and political issues and injustices that most students are not.
  4. Normally the attention span is not beyond the length of their age however the child tends to have a longer attention span.
  5. The child is able to display an intense concentration when given a task.
  6. Most times the child is preoccupied with own thoughts and are considered as daydreamers.
  7. The child put a wide range of ideas or things together that are not typical.
  8. The child is highly curious.
  9. Most times you will find the child asking a question in an effort to organize people or things through games or complex schemes.
